本书将KET考纲词汇中的简单词汇剔除，提取出约1500个核心词汇，按照15个话题进行分类。每个话题下还会将词汇分为基础词汇&进阶词汇，让小读者可以循序渐进学习。每个单词都配有音标、释义、音频以及和主题相关的例句。为了能够帮助小读者们更好地记忆词汇，练习设置就尤为重要。每一个话题下，都会有“单词抄写（四线）”“英译中”“中译英”的练习，尤其是单词抄写，可以很好配合KET小读者的书写规范练习，养成好的书写习惯。此外，每一天都设置了针对性练习，习题形式多样化，有的会和真题考试一直，有的还会设置一些趣味性较强的练习，比如“连连看”和在字母矩阵中圈出单词等。
